On Sunday 30 July 2017, I am tackling the Run Melbourne 10km Event.
My intention is to raise awareness and money for Monash Health Allergy - a Department that I hold dear and owe much thanks and gratitude.
Just over 3 years ago, my life changed forever, after what for me was a typical morning run. However, on this occasion, I was rushed to hospital and later diagnosed with Exercise Induced Anaphylaxis- not your typical Anaphylaxis diagnoses. This sadly wasn’t the only time that I would end up being rushed to emergency, with a total of 5 attacks occurring in just over 13 months.
I have however been super lucky to have an amazing medical team headed by Dr Sara Barnes and Nurse Liz Leahy who have been looking into my condition and providing me with enormous ongoing support.
In addition, they have given me the opportunity to undertake in some medical trials, that have so far, resulted in controlling the onset of my attacks. Without this dedicated medical team, my participation in this Run Melbourne event would not be possible for me.
In trying to thank these amazing people for what they have done for me and continue to do for me, I am creating this page with the aim of raising some money and awareness.
Your participation in this fundraiser will go a long way for this Department to continue supporting many more patients, just like me, who are out there and are in need for a caring and supportive medical team.
If you are in a position to donate that would be greatly appreciated or if you would like to join me on my run (5km, 10km, Half Marathon) even better - then please join Team Sam- Running for Monash Health Allergy and together we can spread the word and raise awareness for Monash Health Allergy.
